Afstanden — everything you want to know
Afstanden is built for criminal defence lawyers. For your fee claim to the Legal Aid Board (Raad voor Rechtsbijstand) you need the postcode of a location — and, for on-call (piket) cases, the driving distance from your office too. Afstanden gives you both in seconds, ready to copy straight into Mijn RvR.
Afstanden is an app for the Mac (macOS 14 or newer). There is currently no iPhone or Windows version.
Afstanden is free and available in the Mac App Store.
Afstanden runs in your menu bar — the bar at the top of your screen — not as a regular window in the Dock. Click the icon in the menu bar to start searching.
The first time, the list is empty. Open the settings, enter your office address and download a ready-made list (courts, prisons or police stations), or add your own locations. After that you can start searching right away.
The app uses Apple Maps to calculate the actual driving distance from your office address to the location. If you change your address, the app recalculates the distances automatically.
Type part of the name; you'll instantly see the postcode and — if you've set an office address — the distance. Copy it with one click.
Yes. The app is set up to be neutral: you create your own categories, pick icons and add your own locations — alongside or instead of the ready-made lists.
District & appeal courts, prisons/youth/forensic institutions, and police stations. You import them in one tap; after that the app calculates the distances from your own address.
Afstanden gives you the driving distance via Apple Maps as a tool to get a good value quickly. Always check your claim yourself; you remain responsible for what you submit to the Legal Aid Board (Raad voor Rechtsbijstand).
The ready-made lists of names, addresses and postcodes are downloaded by the app. The driving distance isn't part of them: the app always works that out itself from your office address, so it's correct for your situation.
Your office address, categories and locations stay locally on your Mac. There's no account, and the developer collects or receives no data. Read more in the privacy policy.
Only to download the ready-made lists and to calculate the driving distance via Apple Maps. Beyond that, the app works entirely locally.
